He has taught English and coached cross country and track since 1978. As a coach\, Rick has led his boys' and girls' cross-country teams to multiple state championships and to national recognition. He has been named Indiana Coach of the Year nine times and has been a four-time nominee for National Coach of the Year. He was inducted into the Indiana Track and Cross Country Hall of Fame in 2004 and inducted into the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation Education Hall of Fame in 2014.\n\n\n\nHis first book\, entitled Move your Chair A Guide to Every Day Excellence\, was published last October.   In addition to teaching and coaching\, Rick is active as a speaker and workshop coordinator around the country. He has spoken to audiences in Indiana\, Michigan\, Missouri\, Nebraska\, and Texas\, presenting thoughts on seeking excellence in all areas of life\, a message of hope\, inspiration\, and humor. Currently at Columbus North High School\, he teaches senior AP Language and Composition and serves as English department chair\, overseeing curriculum and pedagogy for twenty-six teachers and 2\,800 students\, grades 7-12.
